Elizabeth Vrkljan is a Cinematographer based out of Brooklyn, NY. She specializes in highly stylized visuals that border on surrealism. Raised in south Florida, her work is deeply inspired by the Southern Gothic and how trauma shapes our visual reality.
Elizabeth is a graduate of NYU Tisch, where she spent her undergraduate years working extensively as a nonunion gaffer and Local 52 permitted electrician. She has worked under some of the most renowned visual artists of our time including Annie Leibovitz, Janusz Kaminski, and Ashley Connor.
In 2020 she received the Bahoric Meisel Award for Women Cinematographers and was the finalist for the Arri Volker Bahnemann Award. Her first documentary, ALL RIDERS, directed by Victor Dias Rodrigas, premiered at Oscar qualifying festivals Doc NYC and Palm Springs Shorts Fest. The film has since had a run on both MUBI and PBS.
BIRD HOURS directed by Kyle Dubiel screened at the 26th annual Sarasota Film Festival and was featured in Variety’s coverage of the festival. The film made its New York premiere at the 2024 Chelsea Film Festival.
Deeply ingrained in the New York Music scene Elizabeth has shot for viral up and coming artists including COROOK, JULIA GARGANO, and MEG SMITH. Her music video work has been featured on Apple Music.
In 2021, Elizabeth returned to NYU as their youngest adjunct professor of cinematography to date. As of the Fall of 2024, she is the first woman to teach their titular production safety and set protocol course. She has a great passion for creating safer working conditions for crew both physically and mentally.
Elizabeth maintains dual citizenship in the United States and Croatia and is available to work internationally.
